Acadia - May
In early March I spent 10 days exploring Death Valley, the Alabama Hills and Valley of Fire.
Washington and Oregon
In June I spent 11 days exploring parts of Washington state and Oregon.  First the  Palouse farm country in eastern Washington. The rolling hills are a lush green, covered with winter wheat.  After spending a few days on the Olympic coast, I visited the Painted Hills section of John Day Fossil Beds of Oregon.

Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smokey Mountains National Park
We'll spent three weeks in this area in early May, timing our trip for the blooming of foliage and wildflowers.
I spent 1- days in mid June exploring Iceland in early June. My primary interest was  in the southern and western areas.  This time of year the sun sets at midnight and rises at 3am. Unfortunately it was a very wet spring and summer and I only saw the sun for a few hours.

My wife and I toured Italy, spending a week in each of the following locations: Orvieto,  the Amalfi coast, Roma.

Acadia and Maine

I spent the week starting on Columbus day doing photography in Acadia.

Acadia - May

I spent a week with a group of photographers from the Simsbury CT Camera Club discovering the beauty of springtime in Acadia National Park.

Acadia - July

We vacationed in Acadia for two weeks. Each year we rent a small cabin on Frenchmans bay to enjoy the natural beauty. On some mornings I get up at 4am (the sun rises at 5am) to catch the early light.

Venice, Ferrara, Lake Garda, Dolomites Italy

We recently vacationed in Italy and spent a day in Burano, an island in the Venetian Lagoon. Burano is known for its small, brightly painted houses, popular with artists. Folklore has it that the houses were originally painted in bright colors so fishermen could identify their homes when returning from a day of fishing. The colors of the houses follow a specific system originating from the golden age of the Venetian Republic. On this visit, I was looking for a fresh way to photograph the colors of the island and decided on a series of simple compositions. As I reviewed the images, I worked to balance the tones and the relationship of each image to its neighbor. This effort led me to Interaction of Color by the artist Josef Albers.

Valley of Fire, Zion and Bryce

In early November I sent 10 days exploring Valley of Fire, Bryce and Zion National Parks. This is an ideal time for visiting Zion as vehicular traffic is now allowed in the park and the cottonwoods have turned golden.
